The surge of independent Irish features continues with Trampoline

SHARE:

The last couple of years have been great for independent Irish cinema, and that is set to continue with Trampoline, written and directed by St. Johns College Cork Alumni Tom Ryan, and produced by Claire Gormley.

The film follows a young woman named Angie (played by Aoife Spratt) who is forced to move back home to her local town in Tipperary after finishing college. She gets a job teaching at her old school and is forced to reconnect with her old friends and broken family. While struggling to get her personal life in order she also comes to the difficult realization that she is not cut out for a career as teacher, and must try to figure out the next step in her life.

Writer/ Director Tom Ryan is a 26 year old film graduate of St Johns College, Cork. Before making Trampoline, Tom worked as a camera trainee in New York, London and Dublin on various independent movies and TV shows including Steve McQueen's Shame and Vikings.

The feature length drama was independently produced, funding for the budget was made possible by sponsorship from local business in the town of Nenagh in Co. Tipperary, where the movie was shot. The movie also stars Dublin based actors Audrey Hamilton, Maggie Donovan, Eddie Murphy and Niamh Algar. The rest of the cast was rounded out by actors from the Nenagh theater company 'The Nenagh Players'.

"We hope that the film will stand out given that it has strong female leading roles, which is rare in Irish film and it is also a world away from the gritty, dark, crime dramas that are being turned out at the moment. Trampoline is a modern, relevant story for people in their mid-twenties who feel lost after college." says Tom.

The film was edited by Kevin Minogue and features an original music score by Cian O Brien as well as songs from up and coming Irish acts such as Sinead White and London based band Sisters.

The film is now ready to be sent out to film festivals around the globe in the hopes of securing distribution. The first festival on their list is this years inaugural IndieCork Film Festival which will held this October.
