The first NSFW trailer for Spike Lee's remake of acclaimed South Korean thriller Oldboy has hit, and while it probably won't change the minds of those who think it is beyond a bad idea (many of whom seem to inhabit my circle of friends), for those who don't know their Oldboy from their A Tale of Two Sisters, it is a nice introduction to a story that will shock and enthrall in equal measure. Lee seems to be taking some liberties with the source material, while also adhering to it religiously (some scenes here are shot for shot repeats from the original), while not being afraid to stick with the violence.
Starring Josh Brolin, Sharlto Copely, Elisabeth Olsen, and, as revealed in this trailer, Samuel L. Jackson, Oldboy tells the story of an advertising executive (Brolin) who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage in solitary confinemnet for 20 years, with no idea why he is there. When he is inexplicably freed, he embarks on an obsessive mission to gain revenge on his captors.
Released: 25th October (U.S.)/ 6th December (U.K./IRL)
