We haven't seen christian bale on the big screen since The Dark Knight Rises, but he's on his way back in a big way with Out of the Furnace, letting us know there is more to him than a ridiculously gravelly voice (just in case any of us forgot). Directed by Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart), Bale plays Russell Baze, who spends his days working a dead end job and caring for his terminally ill father. When his brother (Casey Affleck), recently returned from Iraq, is killed after getting involved with a ruthless crime ring, the police are unable to do anything, forcing Russell to take matters into his own hands.
For me, the use of Pearl Jam in the trailer says it all. This doesn't seem like your typical revenge thriller, with the focus being on the human drama stemming from the revenge rather than the revenge itself. There is quite a cast assembled here, with Woody Harrelson, Willem DeFoe, and Forrest Whittaker all stepping up. Have a feeling it will be well worth keeping an eye out for this one.
Released: 29th November (U.K./IRL)/ 6th December (U.S.)
