Film adaptions of video games are nothing new, but usually the game has been released before plans are made to bring it to the big screen. Not so for Ubisoft's upcoming Watch Dogs, released on all consoles in November, with the games company's film and television division, Ubisoft Motion Pictures (who are already working on adaption of the smash hit Assassin's Creed, with Michael Fassbender attached), teaming with Sony Pictures Entertainment and New Regency announcing plans to develop the highly anticipated game into a movie. Set in a world entirely controlled by computers, the game centers on Aiden Pearce, a computer hacker turned vigilante who uses his skills to deliver his own brand of justice in the city of Chicago, turning everything from traffic lights, security cameras, and even the phones and computers of city's residents to his will.
Obviously Ubisoft have high hopes and big plans for this property, and even though the public still has experience the game, the concept seems ripe for big screen exploitation. Add to that the cinematic quality, as evidenced by the below gameplay trailer, the game possesses, Watch Dogs has a lot of potential in the right hands.
