Now in it's third year, Cork based Aclique Productions are bringing their current crop of movies to the big screen this Sunday, 8th of September, in The Gate Cinema, North Main Street, Cork from 11:30am-1:30pm. A hard working lot, the annual Premiere is the cumulation of the company's previous years work. As producer Dónal O'Shea puts it, "This is our fourth screening in three years. These movies are like our offspring, so that is why they take 9 months to be conceived."
A screening of short films made over the past year, the premiere is aimed at young adults upwards, featuring comedy, action, drama and even a western. WAB is a violent action movie and The Stranger is a western while both Time Rascals and Deadly Rivals 3 are comedies. There will also be a bunch of sketches and other short movies thrown into the two hour mix. Admission is free and be sure to get there a few minutes early as the event is normally very fast to fill up. CRUNCH sees Marc Redmond and Will Browne go Toe to Toe in a sci fi action movie with lots of kicks, flips and energy blasts. The movie was shot in one day which is a great achievement given the extensive stunts and fx set ups and the movie's twelve minute running time. DEADLY RIVALS 3 is a special movie to the team as it has Warren in his first ever fight scene. In fact since making the movie Warren has expressed his desire to shoot another one as he had so much fun making it. Kevin O'Sullivan plays Warren's deadly rival as they both attempt to make their lives as pleasant as possible.
Some interesting things happened to AClique this year. Given the heavy tone of the movies, Dónal asked some of the team to write sketches to balance the overall show. Featuring the writing talent of Kevin O'Sullivan, Warren Bridgeman, Michael O'Callaghan, Pat Fitz and Dónal O'Shea the sketches are well worth the laugh the lads had making them. The team endured extreme temperatures in their coldest shoot yet and also their hottest shoot. The exterior shoot on The Stranger was as cold as a witch's tit while WAB was sweaty as a steelworkers jock strap. Watch out for Bruce Coleman as he turns in his funniest role yet with I Think I'm A Racist closely followed by his mastery of silent performance in Time Rascals 2. New performers joined in on the fun, Nicholas Connolly and Angela Carew who have added an edge to the movies they've taken part in. Nicholas is the quintessential anti hero in WAB and Angela is excellent as his sinister sister. The team are delighted to have the new blood coagulate perfectly into a solid foundation for future productions.
AClique are a group of film makers based in Cork City. They specialise in short movies, action comedies, science fiction and drama. This year they have tackled martial arts, action, comedy, western and the downright weird. The screening is really an opportunity to share their latest efforts in film making since their last screening in 2012 which was their third successive full house. Dónal said “AClique have worked really hard on this current batch of movies and it shows on screen. Thanks to the generosity of The Gate we get to share our love of film making with our audience. We promise they will have a great laugh watching the comedy and an absolute blast seeing the action. No animals were harmed in the making of these movies...only actors.”
