While the season of vast turkey consumption is nearly upon us, the awards season isn’t too far away either. On January 8, the Peoples Choice Awards kick off where, as the title says, the people decide the winners. We’re taking a look at the Favourite Movie category, where Sports Betting Dime has posted odds. So what can come out on top?
Lets take a look at the 6 nominees
Despicable Me 2
The Minions stole most of the show in the original, and in the sequel, they steal the entire thing. Poor old Gru doesn’t get a look in, as his little, yellow friends run riot from beginning to end, including a pole dancing minion. Hugely popular with adults and kids alike, Despicable Me 2 is as good as the original if not slightly better and is certainly in the running for the big win.

Fast & Furious 6
Few movies have 6 titles in their franchise (and there's another one coming next year) and to its credit, the Fast & Furious movies have always been entertaining with insane stunts and action. However, it’s the 6th movie that features more insanity and crazy action than the other ones put together. Simply put, the crew pull down an entire, gigantic cargo plane out of the sky. It really has to be seen to be believed.
Iron Man 3
Tony Stark returns after saving New York and with The Avengers grossing more than $1 Billion at the box office, audiences were eagerly anticipating Iron Man’s big screen return, and Shane Black’s movie didn’t disappoint. Featuring the ultimate comeback from a broken and beaten down Stark, Iron Man 3 had audiences cheering the aisles, especially in an epic finale featuring every suit that Stark had built, all come together in an explosive conclusion. There’s no denying the popularity of Iron Man, and he certainly is a huge fan favourite. It could well be that the Minions may need an Iron suit of their own to stave off this one!

Monsters UniversityMike and Sully, two of Pixar’s most loved characters get together again, in a prequel to the wonderful Monsters Inc. While lacking the emotional punch of the original, Monsters University still delivered plenty of laughs as audiences see how Mike and Sully became the great scareers that they are today. With Billy Crystal and John Goodman on top form, Monsters University certainly entertained audiences but couldn’t hold a candle to the original and is thus an outside runner for the big prize.
Star Trek Into Darkness
J.J. Abrams, who’s busy with the new Star Wars movie, brought us the sequel to the fantastic original. Definitely Bigger and while not better, Star Trek Into Darkness was a big, ol fashioned blockbuster with plenty of sci-fi action and incredibly likeable characters. For some though, it had a little bit too much fan service, and we all can’t really forgetthat Spock moment. Like Monsters University, this one is an outside runner, but you can’t forget the Trekkies! They may well come out in their droves for this!
So there we have it. Ultimately, its between the Minions and Tony Stark, with a few fast cars fast on their tail. The Peoples Choice Awards are on January 8th 2014.
