Another day, another classic movie gets the remake treatment, with Paramount moving forward with a reboot of The Naked Gun franchise with Ed Helms taking on the role of Lt. Frank Drebin, a character that was played to perfection by Leslie Nielson in the originals and the TV show, Police Squad!, that spawned them. Script writers Thomas Lennon and R. Ben Garanat (Night at the Museum, Reno 911) will provide the screenplay, but even though they've thread similar territory with Reno 911 (a law enforcement parody) I have a feeling they won't be able to capture the style and tone that made the originals so great. And as good as Helms is, he will no doubt be unfavorably compared to Nielson, which will hurt the movie even further. I sense this movie will have a lot going against it.
