Video game adaption Uncharted gets a director

Over the last few years, the movie adaption of Uncharted, the action/adventure video game series from American developer Naughty Dog, has gone through many hands, most famously The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook director David O'Russell. In Russell's vision, Mark Wahlberg would play treasure hunter and rogue Nathan Drake, with Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci playing his father and uncle, respectively. Sadly, this never came about, with Russell leaving the project, and it falling into the hands of Neill Burger (Limitless, Divergent). This also wasn't meant to be, and for a while it felt like the movie would never happen.

Now, Uncharted has raised its head again, with Horrible Bosses and Identity Thief director Seth Gordon in talks to helm the project. Gordon is no stranger to video games, with his first feature being King of Kong: a Fistful of Quarters, which charted the rivalry between two men who were fighting over who had the high score on the Donkey Kong arcade game. The current draft of Uncharted is coming from National Treasure scribes Marianne and Cormac Wibberley, based on the first game, Drake's Fortune, which sees Drake, descendant of explorer Sir Francis Drake, battling both rival treasure hunters and strange creatures in his search for the lost city of El Dorado. No Cast members have been announced yet.
