While Ivan Reitman directed the original Ghostbuters and its sequel, he is not going to putting his ass in the directors chair for the third movie. However he will stay on as producer. Reitman spoke to Deadline about the move saying that Harold Ramis’ death made him think about a lot of things ““When I came back from Harold’s funeral, it was really moving and it made me think about a lot of things. I’d just finished directing Draft Day, which I’m really happy with and proud of. Working on a film that is smaller and more dramatic was so much fun and satisfying. I just finally met with Amy and Doug Belgrad when I got back. I said I’d been thinking about it for weeks, that I’d rather just produce this Ghostbusters. I told them I thought I could help but let’s find a really good director and make it with him. So that’s what we’ve agreed will happen. I didn’t want all kinds of speculation about what happened with me, that is the real story.”
Sony have now begun looking for a director for the third movie, which if the rumours are correct regarding recent scripts,is turning into more of a reboot than a sequel and it will only feature the original members in cameos. As of right now, Bill Murray will not be involved and obviously the late Harold Ramis won’t be either.
Ghostbusters 3 has been on and off so many times now, you wonder can it still be viable? That last movie appeared in 1989 and walking Statue Of Liberties aside, failed to live up to the original. With an early 2015 start date the pressure is on.With no director yet, a script that is all over the place and no cast, I’m wondering just who the hell are Sony gonna call!
