The Jameson Cult Film Club was on the road again, bringing The Usual Suspects to Cork City, and as they are always a great time, I was delighted to receive tickets. Summoned to a secret location on 'San Pedro Pier' (in actuality, Cork City Hall), I was ushered through a police bullpen (complete with a near perfect recreation of the iconic police board) into the main bar, decked out like a ship yard, where the Jameson and ginger flowed freely, and the Kobayashi burgers were plentiful. There was already a huge crowd gathered by the time I arrived, and there was plenty of mingling and banter while we waited for the screening to begin. When the time came for us to take our seats, that famous line-up, in a perfect send up of a pivotal scene from the movie, related to us the rules of the screening. Then the lights went down, and the show began, complete with actors dropping in and out, acting out key scenes as they appeared on screen. Huge props to the guy who committed to been stretchered down the middle of the isle, decked out in bandages, shouting "Keyser Soze!!" at the top of his voice.
I can't recommend The Jameson Cult Film Club enough. The atmosphere is second to none, and the organisers attention to detail (as I left, I spied a broken cup on the ground) adds a lot to the experience. A truly epic night out!
