So we've had Maleficent, Cinderella is dropping next year, and Jon Favreau is currently developing Jungle Book. Now, another Disney animated classic is getting the live action treatment, with the announcement of Dumbo. Unlike Maleficent, Dumbo is expected to be a straight re-telling of the classic tale of a baby elephant with oversized ears who learns to fly, with the massive cast of animals being brought to life by CGI. Screen writer Ehren Kruger (Transformers: Age of Extinction, Scream 3, The Ring, Arlington Road) has being brought on to write the script, which is said to have a "strong family component". Personally, there are alarm bells ringing for me. Kruger is a fine writer, but in recent years there has been a noticeable decline in quality in his work, with the latest Transformers, and its insufferable third act, being the latest example.
