In between rumours of a floating Skywalker hand and about a million other pieces of junk from “inside” sources on the set, comes this official video from J.J. Abrams. The Star Wars Episode VII director, at Pinewood studios, unveils an X-Wing in all of its glory. And yes it is an X-Wing. Originally it was suggested that it might be a Z-95 Headhunter, but the official Star Wars twitter account said otherwise.
The video itself is promoting the “Force For Change” campaign, which benefits UNICEFS network of 14 Innovation Labs, which helps create sustainable solutions to critical issues facing children around the world. The video is definitely worth a look, especially for the appearance of the MSE-6. Who incidentally, Simon Pegg can do a perfect impersonation of.
The X-Wing itself looks absolutely phenomenal. The shape is a bit more rounded, and arguably sleeker than what Star Wars fans are used to, and given that the movie takes places 30 years after Return Of The Jedi, it was inevitable that the ship would take on some upgrades. That said, looks like the Rebel alliance may have been a bit strapped for cash. Abram’s has been banging on now for some time about practical effects, and if this is anything to go by, then we are in for an absolute treat.
