After a massive fan effort, slinging one billion birds in game, to unlock content from the upcoming Angry Birds movie, Rovio, creators of the uber-popular mobile game, and Sony Pictures have unveiled the first image from the 3D animated movie (showing some major difference from the game. Mainly, they have arms and legs now), and a look at the voice cast, which is interesting to say the list. Leading the cast as Red is Horrible Bosses' Jason Sudiekis, with Josh Gad (last heard voicing Olaf in Frozen) as yellow bird Chuck, and Danny McBride (Tropic Thunder, Pineapple Express) as Bomb. The supporting cast includes Bill Hader (Superbad), Tony Hale (Arrested Development), Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids), and Game of Thrones' Peter Dinklage providing his voice as the Great Eagle. That is a lot of fantastic comedy actors all in one place.
I dismissed the Angry Birds movie when I first heard it was in development as just another cash in, but this cast, as well as the fact it is being penned by Jon Vitti (scriptwriter of many early The Simpsons episodes, including the fantastic Cape Fear parody), has me a lot more interested.
Angry Birds is released on July 1st 2016.
