After a troubled beginning, including dropping off Fox's release schedule entirely, video game adaption Assassin's Creed has been given a new lease of life, with the movie recently announced as officially entering production with shooting set to begin in the coming months. Further good news comes fro Deadline reporting that Marion Cotillard has signed for an unspecified role that is expected to span multiple installments in the franchise if the first movie proves popular. Assassin's Creed reunites Cotillard with the movies lead star (and producer) Michael Fassbender and director Justin Kurzel, having worked with the pair on the upcoming Macbeth.
Very little is known about the movie, announced all the way back in 2011, but hopefully with production finally lurching to life, the blanks will be filled in for us over the coming months, as, considering the rich mythology built up in the video game series, this as all the potential to buck the trend of disappointing video game to movie adaptions.
Assassin's Creed is set for release December 21st 2016.
