As Star Wars Celebration starts to wrap up, it’s still firing on all cylinders today, as Gareth Edwards took the stage and spoke about his upcoming Star Wars spinoff called Star Wars Rogue One.
The movie is set to take place between Revenge of the Site and A New Hope and will follow the story of a group of rebels who stole the plans for the Death Star

Don’t expect any Jedi mind tricks though as Edwards says “It comes down to a group of individuals who don't have magical powers that have to somehow bring hope to the galaxy.” The place then went nuts when Edwards released some footage which was made with the collobaration of Industrial Light and Magic.
The footage starts off with Obi-Wan Kenobi's voice-over from the first A New Hope , talking about how the Jedi established peace in the galaxy "before the dark times, before the Empire." The camera tracks over a jungle valley as Obi-Wan continues. A TIE Fighter then soars overhead, heading towards the outline of what looks like a small moon, but as we know, it’s no moon, it’s a (all together now) a space station.
Expect some gritty realism as Edwards continues "It's the reality of war. Good guys are bad. Bad guys are good. It's complicated, layered; a very rich scenario in which to set a movie."
The original idea for the movie came from ILM’s John Knoll and when it was pitched to Edwards he recalled his train of thought "Please be rubbish, please be rubbish, please hate it,And then I got to the end and I was just, 'Oh, fuck.’"
Rogue One will start shooting in a month or so and will be released on December 2016. Edwards is a huge talent, and from what he’s said, it’s certainly shaping up to be epic! Personally, this was the kinda thing I could only dream of as a kid. We never really knew much about those Death Star plans and their origins, except for what was conjured up in the imagination of young boy. In any case, TAKE MY MONEY!!!
