Looks like the force isn’t strong with Josh Trank. The Chronicle director has exited the second Star Wars Anthology movie (due out in 2018) - In a statement the director said
“After a year of having the incredible honor of developing with the wonderful and talented people at Lucasfilm, I’m making a personal decision to move forward on a different path,”
So you’d give up Star Wars? Freakin’ STAR WARS? This statement may as well read “Creative Differences”. It’s all about public perception and keeping face, as per the usual Hollywood spin. What a load of bollocks.
Trank was a noshow at Star Wars Celebration recently, tweeting at the time he was sick, which has multiple rumours circling it, including one that the studio told him to stay at home.
Other sources and rumours say that Trank and screenwriter Simon Kinberg weren’t thrilled with the idea of working together again. By all accounts they didn’t exactly see eye to eye while filming the Fantastic Four reboot, and considering Kinberg is a bigger deal than Trank (X-Men movies, a consultant on The Force Awakens), he wanted another director.
The Lucasfilm VP of Development (they really wheeled out the big guns here) Kiri Hart, said “It was a privilege to collaborate with Josh. We are grateful for the energy and love of Star Wars that he brought to the process, and we wish him all the best”
