After casting her one of six Bob Dylan’s in the fantastic I’m Not There, director Todd Haynes teams up once again with Cate Blanchett for 1950’s set drama Carol. Based on Patricia Highsmith’s novel The Price of Salt, we follow Blanchett’s titular character as she breaks away from her loveless marriage and embarks on a voyage of self discovering after discovering a connection with young store clerk Therese (Rooney Mara), one that starts off innocent but soon deepens.
Beautifully echoing the movies of the era it’s set in, I think we can all agree Carol looks absolutely stunning, and while there is very little said in this trailer, the imagery and stolen glances between Blanchett and Mara convey more about the story than words ever could.
Following it’s premiere at the 59th BFI London Film Festival in October, Carol reaches American cinema’s on November 20th before reaching our shores on November 27th.
