While Avengers: Age of Ultron was another entertaining slice of the Marvel Studios pie, one major complaint that scenes setting up 2018 and 2019’s epic Avengers: Infinity War felt shoehorned in and unnecessary. Namely, Thor’s trip to the mysterious Norn cave, which was far too brief to be of any consequence. With Joss Whedon’s original cut of the movie said to be close to three and a half hours long, as opposed to the two hour twenty minute version we saw in cinemas, it’s clear that there was quite a bit missing.
Now, pimping the movie’s release on DVD and Blu-Ray, Marvel have released a longer cut of the cave scene which was removed when it didn’t play well with test audiences (As Whedon says, it would have worked brilliantly in a Thor movie, but feels out of place in an Avengers movie). While the mysterious woman from the trailers is still missing, it certainly clears things up quite a bit, explaining why Thor is so knowledgeable about the Infinity Stones when he reunites with the Avengers in the movie’s third act. Check it out below.
It’s nice to see a bit of what could have been since Age of Ultron was hurt by the cutting of several scenes. Hopefully, a Director’s Cut will be coming our way someday soon.
