First it was Dan Ackroyd. Then, Bill Murray. Now the trifecta is complete, with The Hollywood Reporter revealing that the last remaining Ghostbuster not to sign on for Paul Feig’s female centric reboot, Ernie Hudson, was spotted on set yesterday for the last day of shooting. Hudson was vocal (with just about everyone else) about how an all female Ghostbusters was ‘a bad idea’ when the project was first announced, but later went back on his comments. Looks like it was enough to get him a role in the movie.
It’s unknown if Hudson will be reprising his role of Winston Zeddemore, but with Ackroyd and Murray both playing roles unconnected to the original, it’s more likely that he will be following suit. This reboot is probably the most divisive in recent memory, but getting the band back together (minus the dearly departed Harold Ramis) as it were, does generate a great deal of good will towards the project. Murray himself said as much, basically summing up his cameo as a seal of approval on his part. Not that it needs it, but with the original cast involved it should at least see audiences and fans go a bit easier on it. Maybe judge it on its own merits, as opposed to comparing it to the original.
Ghostbusters is released July 22nd 2016.
