It’s quite something, isn’t it? The brainchild of Russian musician and filmmaker Illya Naishuller (he used the same POV conceit with the ‘Bad Motherfucker' music video for his band Biting Elbows), Hardcore follows Henry, who, just after discovering he has been reborn as a cybernetic super soldier, finds his wife (Haley Bennett) kidnapped by the telekinetic Akan (Danila Kozlovsky), who is bent on world domination. With the eccentric Jimmy (Shallot Copely) by his side, Henry must kick, punch, shoot, and parkour his way across Russia to save her, fighting Akan’s private army all the way.
You won’t find anything like Hardcore without turning on your console or PC, and for that alone, I’m totally down with this insane, action packed little movie. It’s very rare something this unique and fun comes our way, and I hope this is given a chance and finds an audience.
We have no idea when Hardcore will find its way to our screen, but hopefully it won’t take too long. To tide us over, here’s the music video that started it all.
