While Ridley Scott’s Prometheus may not have been the return to the Alien franchise everyone wanted (personally, I loved his delving into the origins of the mysterious Engineers who played a minuscule part in Alien), that hasn’t stopped him from turning his attention to a string of sequels, three to be exact, that previously said will tell their own story before tying into the movie that started it all. But in a recent interview with HeyUGuys, he’s done a bit of a 180 and dropped a bit of information that might please those who wanted more of a connection to the prequel and the rest of the series. Speaking of the sequel, set to go in front of the cameras in February, Scott revealed that the title is now Alien: Paradise Lost, suggesting he’ll be bringing back the Xenomorphs in the form we all know and love sooner than expected.
The subtitle, Paradise Lost, is an intriguing one, referring of course to John Milton’s epic poem which tells of the biblical fall of man. Paradise was also the placeholder name for the sequel for a while now, and the name given to the planet the Engineers call home that Elisabeth Shaw (Noomi Repace) and the head of android David (Michael Fassbender) rocketed off to find at the end of Prometheus. No doubt there will be parallels between Milton’s poem and inferior humans seeking to learn the secrets of the beings who seeded the universe. One of them hopefully being why they would create such an evil creature as the Xenomorph.
No release date has been given for Alien: Paradise Lost
