When it was announced that the long in development Ghostbusters 3 was giving way for a new, female centric reboot helmed by Bridesmaids and The Heat’s Paul Feig, the reaction split the fan base down the middle. This was always going to happen (as it would no matter what was being rebooted and with who), but the hate and vitriol aimed at Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones strapping on the proton packs has seen the Internet at its worst. Even the news that original stars Bill Murray, Dan Ackroyd, Ernie Hudson, and the recently revealed Annie Potts would return for cameos hasn’t seen it calm down any (though Feig has voiced his frustration that they were leaked since he wanted to keep them a surprise). And it looks like Feig has had enough.
Taking to Twitter, the director has fired back at the haters, mainly down to been fed up it seems,
with some vitriol of his own. We all judge movies before we see them every now and again, but Ghostbusters seems to getting it worst than most, and I can understand Feig’s frustration at it all. Really, it should be judged on its merits as it’s own movie, not just because it’s gender swapped your favourite characters.
You all have no idea what we did, so stop acting like you do. Enough is enough. Just let this movie happen. #enough https://t.co/lBZGHaNEbz
