UPDATE - It has been confirmed by Sony that Sam Smith is indeed signing the theme song for Spectre, entitled Writing's on the Wall, making him the first British male solo star to sing a Bond theme song since Tom Jones and Thunderball. The song will be available to purchase and stream through Capitol Records on September 25th.
As important to any James Bond movie as the car he drives or the martini he drinks is the theme song, and there was tons of speculation doing the rounds on who would follow Adele’s absolutely amazing Skyfall for the upcoming Spectre, with everyone from Sam Smith and Ellie Goulding (even Radiohead were thrown in there at one point) as firm favourites to take the honour. Now, with the song said to be unveiled tomorrow, we seem to have our confirmation, through Twitter of course:

So, Sam Smith, sporting a Spectre ring that I now desperately need, has the unenviable task of following up Adele’s Oscar winning performance. While not to belittle the Stay With Me singer, but Skyfall is a song that won’t be easily topped. But he does have an incredible singing voice, so he should be able to have a good crack at it.
