The Big Short Debuts An Impressive First Trailer

For his first foray into drama, Anchorman and Stepbrothers director Adam Mckay has assembled quite the cast for true life tale The Big Short, based on the novel of the same name by Moneyball author Michael Lewis. Christian Bale, Steve Carrell, Ryan Gosling, and Brad Pitt all come together  as four outsiders who decide to bet against the banks after predicting the global economy crash. McKay has tackled similar material in The Other Guys, and from the stylish first trailer he has produced something very interesting indeed.

Everyone seems on point here, ignoring some questionable wig and make up choices, and the ensemble promises to work incredibly well together, with each actor complementing the other perfectly. And McKay’s direction seems to pack the necessary punch to grab, and hold, an audience’s attention.

Coming to this side of the pond on January 22nd, The Big Short will be released in America on a limited run on December 11th, before expanding on December 23rd. This puts it slap dab in the middle of awards season, and I think it has every chance of upsetting the Oscar race.
