The first in a four picture deal between Adam Sandler and Netflix, you have probably heard about The Ridiculous 6 because of the fierce controversy surrounding it and the fact that a number of Native American performers walking off set due to racially sensitive material. Despite that bit of bad press, the first trailer for the comedy western about a gang of outlaw half-brothers is here, and.....it’s an Adam Sandler movie, we know what to expect by now.
While it elicited nary a chuckle from me, I have to hand it to Sandler and and his go to director Frank Coraci (Click, The Waterboy, The Wedding Singer) for assembling a pretty decent cast. Sure, the Sandler regulars are there (Terry Crews, Rob Schneider, Jon Lovitz, Steve Buscemi etc.), but it also has Harvey Kietel, Steve Zahn, Danny Trejo, Nick Nolte, Luke Wilson, and John Tuturro in the mix too. Oh yeah, and a sorta unrecognisable Taylor Lautner. So that’s what he’s been up to.
Personally (and probably foolishly), I was hoping the Netflix deal would see a return to the early Sandler who put out movies we actually enjoyed. Judging by this, this probably won’t be the case. But who knows, he could surprise everyone when the movie hits Netflix on December 11th.
