As much as a million minds were suddenly blown, the latest trailer and poster for Star Wars: The Force Awakens posed one major question for everybody: Where’s Luke? Han is there, so’s Leia, even C-3PO. Why no Master Skywalker? Sure, we heard his voice, and got a glimpse of his robotic hand, but Mark Hamill has been noticeable by his absence. It turns out that this is a conscious effort by JJ Abrams, as Luke has been placed well and truly in The Mystery Box. Speaking to the Associated Press, Abrams stated there is a reason to us not seeing Luke so far, going as far as saying it’s no accident.
There have been some supposedly leaked pictures of Hamill to make their way onto the web in the last few months, but other than that Luke’s involvement has been a closely guarded secret. This, of course has lead to a massive amount of fan speculation, including the theory that Luke is actually Kylo Ren, the bad guy played by Adam Driver. No matter what happens, it’s clear JJ has big plans for Luke. Just another reason to be excited for our return trip to a galaxy far, far away.
