It was confirmed as a possibility a few months back, but now its a reality: Trainspotting 2 is happening!!! Tristar Pictures have announced that they have acquired the worldwide rights to the much anticipated sequel, with director Danny Boyle returning alongside Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, Ewan Bremmer, and Robert Carlyle who will be reprising the iconic roles of Renton Sickbay, Spud, and Begbie. What’s more, production is set to begin late next Spring with a released ate eyed for 2017 to coincide with the 21st birthday of the original film.
The as yet untitled sequel is said to be based on Trainspottuing author Irvine Welsh’s follow-up novel, Porno, which catches up with main characters a number of years after the events of the first book. Speaking of what the new film will have in store us, Boyle said, "It’s been 20 years since we met these characters and John Hodge’s screenplay brilliantly explores what’s happened to them — and to us — in the intervening years. We are grateful to (Tristar’s) Tom (Rothman) and Hannah (Minghella) for their support and we can’t wait to get going.”
