While we have no indication that the MCU will be crossing over with it’s Netflix counterpart anytime soon, it turns out that it has already happened, albeit not in the way you think. Speaking with NY Daily News, Jon Bernthal, who will be playing The Punisher in season 2 of Daredevil (hitting Netflix on March 18th), revealed that while in Ireland filming the upcoming Pilgrimage, he and co-star, also future Spider-Man, Tom Holland worked together on their audition tapes for Marvel:
We were making tapes from Ireland in the process of getting him cast in Spider-Man and then he and I made a tape for The Punisher… During this independent movie that we did in Ireland we were constantly making tapes for Marvel — just acting together.
Hardcore Marvel Comics fans will get an absolute kick out of this, since The Punisher’s first appearance was in The Amazing Spider-Man #129, and while it is unknown (though highly unlikely) whether their on screen persona’s will ever share the same screen, it’s nice to know that this pairing does exist. Though who knows if we’ll ever see the tapes. As Bernthal put it:
These tapes definitely do exist, you can call Marvel and ask for it, but that’s like breaking into Fort Knox.
