Unsurprisingly, Christopher Nolan has a lot of clout in Hollywood, and he is one of the few directors who can get any actor he wants for his movies. For his latest, war epic Dunkirk, based on the World War II evacuation of 330,000 Allied military men from the titular French town, he expressed a desire to cast newcomers in the lead roles, playing off an impressive supporting cast made up of Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance, and Kenneth Branagh. Foinn Whitehead, who has only one role to his name with Bristh mini-series Him, was reportedly offered a co-lead role, and now Deadline are reporting Nolan has made another offer to someone who, while having no acting credits under his belt, is definitely not unknown to anyone: One Directions Harry Styles. Quite the curveball, huh?
Deadline were quick to point out that they believe what whatever role his is offered is not a leading part, but it is interesting that the first time he is associated with Hollywood is with such a high profile project. With One Direction on hiatus, the time is right for Styles to pull a ‘Timberlake’ and start laying the foundation for an alternate career of when the boyband bubble bursts. Though is starting in on the penthouse suite that is Christopher Nolan the right way to go for an unproven actor?
