With production set to begin very soon, the highly anticipated Kingsman: The Golden Circle has thrown us a casting curveball with The Hollywood Reporter revealing that Elton John (yes, that Elton John) is in talks to join the the Matthew Vaughn directed sequel, his first live action, big screen role since 1997’s Spice World. There is no word on whether he’ll be playing a character or himself, but since the first movie delighted in sending up pop culture, the latter is most likely the case.
If he does indeed sign on the dotted, he will be joining a cast the includes Taron Egerton, Mark Strong, Halle Berry, Julianne Moore, Pedro Pascal (as the wonderfully named Jack Daniels), and, as strongly hinted at in the teaser poster, a returning Colin Firth, though how his character overcame that nasty case of death in the first movie remains to be seen. The story this time round sees Egerton’s hooligan turned super spy team up with the Kingsman’s American counterpart, The Staesman, to thwart the villainous Poppy’s (Moore) evil plot. How Elton John fits into all this is anyone’s guess, but no doubt we’ll have a lot of fun finding out.
Kingsman: The Golden Circle is set for release June 16th 2017.
