I think it was the one rumour that the entire world took as fact, that Ben Affleck would be donning the cowl beyond Batman v Superman and Justice League to play Batman in his own solo, that he could be writing, alongside comic writer and DC Comics’ Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns, and directing himself. Well, now we don’t have to add maybe to that statement anymore, as Warner Bros. chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara took to the stage at Cinemacon to confirm what we all knew. He also confirmed that Batfleck will indeed be pulling double duty and stepping behind the camera to bring his first solo adventure as the Dark Knight to life.
While Batman v Superman left a bad taste in the mouths of many people (listen to any of our recent podcasts where complaining about the movie seems to have become a weekly segment), the one thing that everyone can agree on is that Affleck totally killed it as both Bruce Wayne and Batman. Any further time with him as the character is more than welcome, and his previous directorial work adds a certain gravitas to the project (and, personally, taking the character away from Zack Snyder is only a good thing). From a comic book nerd point of view, Johns’ involvement is also something to be excited about. He is responsible for some of the best stories DC has put out in the last 15 years, and helped re-invigoarte several characters, including Green Lantern, The Flash, and Aquaman (a character many saw as a joke for years), and catapult their books to the top of the sales charts. Even if he is just brought on to proofread Affleck’s script, his involvement is kind of a big deal.
No release date for the movie has been given as of yet.
