A while back, BBC did some sleuthing when Sony registered some Spider-Man related domain names and discovered that 2017’s Spider-Man reboot may carry with it the subtitle ‘Homecoming’. It was all a rumour at that stage, but now it’s a rumour no more, as Sony Pictures and Marvel Entertainment have announced the name for the we all crawler’s 2017 reboot is indeed Spider-Man: Homecoming.
While the name, besides playing up the film’s high school setting and being a nice play on the fact that Spidey is finally home with Marvel after all these years, doesn’t reveal much about the story, star Tom Holland, who helped reveal the title at Sony Pictures Cinema-Con presentation, did say that it has a quite literal meaning:
It really is a homecoming, because, throughout the movie, Peter is trying to find out who he is and where he belongs in this world.
What this means in terms of the actual narrative is anyone’s guess, and at this stage know little to nothing about this reboot. Rumours have surfaced that The Vulture, a villain Sam Raimi wanted to use in Spider-Man 3, will be the big bad, and Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige has teased some familiar faces from the MCU will show up. But for now, I think we can all agree that the logo is pretty sweet, especially the Spidey face where the o should be.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is set for release July 7th 2017.
