The third team-up of director Antoine Fuqua and Denzel Washington, after Training Day and The Equalizer, USA Today have the first images of The Magnificent Seven (itself a Western remake of Seven Samurai), and not only does it feature a star studded cast, it has some of the best character names to ever grace a feature film. O.k., Sam Chislom (Washington), Josh Farraday (Chris Pratt), Jack Horne (Vincent D’Onofrio), and Vasquez (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) sound typical enough. But what about Goodnight Robicheaux (Ethan Hawke)? Billy Rocks (Byun-Hun Lee)? Red Harvest (Martin Sensmier)? I’m gonna say it......magnificent.
The two movies this takes inspiration from, mainly with the story of a disparate group of outlaws joining together to protect a defenceless town, are deserved classics, and given Fuqua’s track record, especially when working with Washington, I think it’s in safe hands.
Released: 23rd September
