The search for the new Hans Solo is one we’ve been following quite closely here at The Movie Bit, and not just because he’s the world’s most lovable space scoundrel. Ireland had a horse in the race, with the incredibly talented Jack Reynor (What Richard Did) one of the handful of actors in the narrowed down search. But now, according to Deadline, it seems the search may be coming to an end, and Mr. Reynor may be out of luck, with all signs point to Alden Ehrenreich, last seen stealing the show in Hail, Caesar! as ‘singing cowboy’ Hobie Doyle, as the man to don the iconic white shirt/black vest combo for Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s 2018 stand alone Han Solo movie.
The news site is reporting that the actor has emerged as front runner, thanks to an impressive performance during screen tests, and official word is said to be coming soon. The search for the role had some very names attached to it, including Reynor, Taron Eggerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service), Dave Franco (21 Jump Street), and Miles Teller (Whiplash). All have given powerhouse performances in the past, but if his turn in Hail, Caesar! is anything to go by, Ehrenreich could be the right man for the job. Watch this space!!
