With Terminator: Genisys falling at the first hurdle to get a reboot of the franchise off the ground, Skydance have taken their re-imagining of the series back into the shop, ‘readjusting’ any plans for future sequels. While Paramount may have dropped the planned follow-up from their release schedule (a practice that should be taken with a pinch of salt really, Jurassic World and Assassin’s Creed were also dropped early on in their development), Genisys still banked an impressive $440 million worldwide, and sequels have been greenlit on less. But if Genisys 2 (or whatever it is called) does come our way, it will be without a major star from the original, with the new Sarah Connor telling comingsoon.net in no uncertain terms she’s done with the franchise:
“No. Can I say that? It’s okay. No. Uh-uh. But I have some very different roles coming up.”
I think its pretty clear that Daenerys Stromborn is done with the franchise. And while it is a considerable blow, any future movie can pull some timey wimey explanation out the hat to explain away her absence. But seeing as Genisys was pretty much sold on this new Sarah Connor, will Paramount and Skydance move forward, or just let the franchise die?
