The story of Edward Snowden, the polarising figure who exposed the NSA’s illegal surveillance activities and became the most wanted man in the world, seems the perfect fit for Oliver Stone. Well, the Oliver Stone who brought us Platoon and JFK, not the one who directed Savages. The first trailer does suggest the return of the angry, authority baiting Stone of old, portraying Joseph Gordon Levitt’s Snowden as a patriotic American caught up in something much, much bigger than he is. The cast, including Tom Wilkinson, Rhys Ifans, Zachary Quinto, and Timothy Olyphant seem to be on top form, even if JGL’s accent seems a bit off. Check it out below.
