Star Wars Episode VIII to shoot scenes in Cork’s English Market

Not so long ago we told you about Rian Johnson’s Episode VIII shooting in and around Brow Head in West Cork. The Star Wars shoot will run simultaneously with another shoot in Ceann Sibeal in West Kerry and a crew of 200 are expected in the areas.

And now Cork’s English Market is also going to be involved over the next few weeks. Albeit in a smaller sense compared to the other shoots. Already Johnson has shot some exterior footage in Dubrovnik and it’s believed that the English Market on the Grand Parade is to act as an interior for some of these scenes. It’s highly unlikely though that Luke Skywalker will be buying spiced beef from Tom Durcan though, as sections of the market will go under a transformation before the shoot begins. Sections will be closed off as set decorators and production designers work their magic. During the actual shoot (rumored to be the last weekend in April) the English market will be closed completely to the public and given the veil of secrecy surrounding Star Wars, security guards will be placed in various locations so no Corkonians will be able to get a glimpse of their favorite characters. Traders who will have to close for the filming are to be compensated and some have been offered very small background extra roles.
