Shane Black’s continuation of the Predator franchise has been on the cards for some time now, but everything seems to be coming together, with production set to being in the Autumn with an eye towards a March 2nd 2018 release. While details, save that the title is The Predator, have been pretty thin on the ground, Black, speaking to Crave Online, shed quite a bit of light on what’s in store for us, including a modern day setting, and the possibility of Arnold Schwarzenegger returning as an elderly ‘Dutch’ Schafer:
“These things all happened in 1990. But now it’s 25 years later. So in other words, if Arnold ’s in it – which I’m not allowed to discuss [laughs] – he would be old Arnold.”
While The Predator is meant to be a reinvention of the franchise, Arnie making an appearance does make sense in terms of appealing to fans of the original movie, and Terminator: Genisys proved he isn’t above returning to his old roles this many years on. Black’s comments though indicate that it might be some sort of cameo as opposed to a main role. No doubt speculation will run rampant until we hear something more concrete.
