Warner Bros.’ own shared DC Comics universe continues with the upcoming Suicide Squad, but The Hollywood Reporter have revealed some intriguing details that plans are afoot to give what could very well be the stand out of that flick, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, her own movie. But the kicker is that it won't be a Harley centric spin-off, but instead focusing on several female DC Comics’ heroes and villains, with Ms. Quinn getting involved in the action. Robbie herself will act as producer on the project, having proven to be its driving force after falling in love with DC’s female during a deep dive into Harley Quinn’s comic book history to get into character. She brought in a writer, unknown to us at this time, to help develop the idea and present it to the powers at be at Warner Bros., who reportedly snapped it up.

With the huge back catalogue of heroines and villainesses DC has, this really feels like a no brainer. Couple that with Harley Quinn’s insane popularity (especially with her re-invention as a wacky, fourth wall breaking Deadpool type character), you get the feeling that this was always on the cards. The identity of what characters will be at play, besides Harley of course, is unknown at this stage, but Batgirl (whose alter ego Barbara Gordon is played by Jena Malone in the Batman v Superman extended edition) and Katana, portrayed by Karen Fukuhara in Suicide Squad, feel like distinct possibilities. So does Poison Ivy, Harley’s plant controlling partner in crime from the comics. Not having her appear will be a massive missed opportunity. There is a big chance this could turn out to be a Birds of Prey movie, following a Gotham City based group of heroines led by Batgirl (in her identity as the ultimate computer hacker Oracle), or even a big screen version of Gotham Sirens, which followed Quinn, Ivy, and Catwoman coming together as a team. Whatever happens, I’m really interested to see how this project come together.
