Proving once again that Marvel Studios aren’t afraid to switch things up on the fly when it comes to the MCU, the highly anticipated two part Avengers: Infinity War, whose second part will cap off Marvel’s Phase Three, will be experiencing a name change, switching from the kinda bland Part 1 and Part 2 to................well, something different. Director’s Anthony and Joe Russo, who have stated in the past that the two movies are “very, very different from each other”, confirmed as much to Uproxx, with Joe saying:
The intention is we will change it,. We just haven’t come up with the titles yet. But, yes, we will change it. And, yes, that is a scoop: we will retitle them.
So, we don’t what the titles are at this stage, but we all knew that the Infinity War wouldn’t arrive fully formed on our door step. Thanos isn’t in possession of any of the Infinity Gems he needs to start the war in the first place (after foolishly giving Loki the only one in his possession in The Avengers), so the first movie could very well see him gathering them all from the various parts of the MCU they’ve been scattered to. This was the basis of Thanos Quest, a mini series that lead into the Infinity Gauntlet event on which Infinity War is based, so, give it some tweaking and Infinity Quest, keeping the recognition value for the fans, is as good a name as any for the first installment in 2018, with the Infinity War proper coming our way 2019. Of course, these are just the musing of a hard core comic book nerd, who knows what The Russo’s and Marvel Studios will settle on.
Whatever they end up being called, both movies will be released on May 4th 2018 and May 3rd 2019 respectively.
