Only three weeks after its release, Captain America: Civil War is inching ever closer to the billion dollar mark, currently sitting on a world wide gross of $981 million. But on its way to that magic number, the critically acclaimed opener to Marvel Studio’s Phase Three has picked another accolade, and quite a big one at that, becoming the top grossing movie of the year so far, surpassing fellow Disney stablemate Zootopia (Zootropolis to those of us on this side of the pond) which brought in $974 million. Barring any unforeseen stealth hits this Summer, it’s a safe bet to assume it will hang onto the title for some time, with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story later this year being distinct possibilities to take the crown.
