Not content with having a big role in the new Star Wars trilogy, Lupita Nyong’o is in talks to become part of the MCU, with The Hollywood Reporter revealing that is in talks to join Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther. There is no concrete word on who she will be playing, with the publication only saying she will be playing love interest to Chadwick Boseman’s royal superhero, but the MCU has taught us even the love interest can be an absolute bad ass (just look at Peggy Carter or Gamora), and a knowledge of Black Panther’s comic book history may provide a hint to who she’ll be playing.
Remember that scene in Captain America: Civil War where Black Widow goes to enlist T’Challa’s help only to be confronted by a mysterious bald woman? That had you scratching your head, didn’t it? Well, she was one of the Dora Milaje (“adored ones”), the Wakanadan royal guard and also wives in training for the king of Wakanda. There is any number of the Dora Milaje at any one time, so it is highly possible Nyong’o could be taking on the one of these women. Of course, this is just speculation for now, no doubt we’ll learn more as the production start date in early 2017 inches ever closer.
Black Panther is set for release February 2nd 2018.
