Bringing together two absolute film legends to tell an incredible true story, Sully could definitely see director Clint Eastwood net himself another Oscar nomination when bringing the story of the ‘Miracle on the Hudson’ to the big screen. Tom Hanks plays Chelsey “Sully” Sullenberger, the pilot who saved the lives of 155 passengers in January 2009 after gliding his disabled plane on the waters of the Hudson river. Sully tells the story of not only amazing feat of heroism, but also the investigation that followed that almost destroyed the pilot’s career.
While the ‘Miracle of the Hudson’ looms larger in this trailer, Sully itself seems to be a character study of the titular pilot, and both Eastwood and Hanks seem to be firing on all cylinders here, promising an impressive level of drama with just one trailer. Comparisons will be made between this and Robert Zemeckis’ very similar Flight, but to do so would be a disservice to both movies.
Released: 9th September (U.S.)/ 2nd December (IRL/U.K.)
