Focusing on two passengers who awaken from hyper sleep abroad a luxury space ship ninety years into a one hundred and twenty year journey, Passengers, an original sci-fi story from Prometheus screenwriter Jon Spaihts, has been doing the rounds in Hollywood for some time now. At one point having Keanu Reeves attached, the project started to gain traction when The Imitation Game director Morten Tyldum, fresh off his Best Director nomination, came on board. Shortly thereafter, it soon became one of the most anticipated movies of the year, Tyldum enlisting the talents of Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt, two of the biggest actors on the planet right now, and more than capable at making this intriguing two under work. Our first look at the movie has come in the form of these images, courtesy of EW, teasing a classic sci-fi tone for the movie.
Tyldum also spoke with the publication, explaining how the movie is epic in scale, yet intimate in focus:
“It’s one of those stories that really grabs you and you fall in love with it. It’s very smart and funny and clever and such a page turner I couldn’t put it down. Every 10 pages, something new happens! At the same time it’s a very intimate movie while taking place on this epic scale. For me, it’s a story about what’s important to live a full life. What are the things we need as humans? It’s not afraid to entertain but at the same time it asks big questions about what does it mean to really feel happy. Every generation has its love story. I feel like this is it. I had to do it.”
