Proving to be the little movie that could, the much maligned The Crow remake is set to head in front of the cameras in the coming months, with The Wrap reporting that production has been earmaked to get underway in January. In was in 2008 when this remake was first greenly, and in that time numerous directors, including Stephen Norrington and F, Javier Guiterrez have dropped out, the role of Eric Draven has been claimed by Bradley Cooper, Mark Wahlberg, Tom Hiddleston, Luke Evans, and Jack Huston amongst others, and everything from copyright claims to rights holders Relativity Media going bankrupt have stopped it from hitting the big screen. But the last few months has seen some serious traction on the project, with The Hallow’s Corin Hardy staying on as director through thick and thin, only last month sealing the deal with Jason Mamoa, over a pint of Guinness no less, to don the white face paint as the movie’s undead spirit of vengeance given life by the titular, mystical bird.
This new iteration of the story will apparently skew closer to James O’ Barr’s dark, hard edged original comic book (the creator is also on board as creative consultant) as opposed to being a straight adaption of Alex Proyas’ stylised, gothic cult classic. It’s is worth nothing that the remake has been this close to filming before disaster reared it’s ugly head, but everything seems to be running smoothly in the last few months and it might actually happen this time.
