The ongoing saga of whether or not Daniel Craig will once again reprise the role of 007 on the big screen has thrown up another interesting rumour. Not long after a rumoured shortlist for the next James Bond came to our attention, celebrity news site Radar have reportedly discover yet another wrinkle to this particular story. According to them, Sony have opened the door on their Scrooge McDuck-like vault and offered Craig $150 million to pick up the Walther PPK for not one, but two more movies, said to form part of a trilogy with Craig’s Bond been the focus of the first two before passing the torch to his eventual, long-time replacement in the third. Apparently, the studio wants to phase in the new James Bond as opposed to him just appearing in the role in the next movie.
Of course, this is just a rumour, but considering Craig once said he would rather slash his own wrists before playing role again, and has already reportedly turned down $68 million, I wouldn’t be surprised if Sony had considered backing up a fleet of money filled trucks to the actor’s front door. What’s interesting about this particular rumour is that the studio seems to pulling the trigger on a long held fan theory that James Bond is a code name passed on from agent to agent, with Craig grooming his own replacement. Whether this turns out to be true or not, I personally hope all these rumours soon come to an end, and we finally find out what is actually going on.
