Even though it is set for release in less than a year, it’s been all bit thin on the ground when it comes to Wolverine 3, Hugh Jackman’s last appearance as the character he has been playing for 16 years. We know it’ll be taking elements from Mark Millar's (creator of Kick-Ass and Kingsman: The Secret service) future set storyline Old Man Logan, with Patrick Stewart, Boyd Holbrook, Richard E. Grant, Stephen Merchant, Eriq La Salle, Elise Neal, and Elisabeth Rodriguez all joining Jackman for his last runaround in Fox's X-Men universe. A rumour has been doing the rounds for a while now that cybernetic mercenaries The Reavers will be the movie’s big bad, but, with thanks to Cinema Blend for the heads up, the commentary track for X-Men: Apocalypse has director Bryan Singer and writer/producer Simon Kinberg revealing that fan favourite villain and genetics expert Mister Sinister will be menacing the fast healing mutant in the James Mangold directed sequel.
Those of you who stuck around for the X-Men: Apocalypse post-credit scene will have copped to Sinister coming to the X-Men movie universe, with the appearance of Essex Corp (Nathaniel Essex being Sinister’s real name) cleaning up the aftermath of the movie’s Weapon X assault dropping a huge hint that Sinister was indeed on his way. But who could be playing Sinister in Wolverine 3? It has been reported that Boyd Holbrook is taking on the role of a villain who serves as the head of security for a global corporation (has to be Essex Corp., right?), so he could likely be Sinister’s right hand man as opposed to the big bad himself. I think everyone’s money should be on Richard E. Grant. The man has the perfect look and calm, cool mannerisms for the evil mad scientist, and he would have an absolute blast as a bad guy. With filming officially wrapped, we should hopefully be hearing concrete news in the coming months.
