It was late last night that we hit article 9,999. Tom wrote a Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 article to be precise. So that means that this article is actually the 10,000th article that we've published on the site. Which is just insane when you think about it, especially if we take an average of 300 words an article (alot of the time, it far more) which if my calculator is correct, we've typed well over 3 MILLION words into this site.
Some of you have been reading since the start. Since this place was a barren wasteland of badly written reviews (go on, we'll give you the joke..."It still is") to what it is now. And I'm glad to say that we've picked up an award or two along the way and a truck load of runner ups and finalist places.
The site has changed hugely over those 10,000 articles, with the most recent design being the best it's ever looked.
It's taken an incredible amount of work, time and effort to get to this point. There's no thanks, there's no money, all there is, is a passion for movies. I'm incredibly proud of what the site has achieved over the years and I'm forever in awe at the dedication the writing team has here (especially Tom, who the place would go on fire and burn to the ground without) both past and present.
We've seen the movie industry change over these 10,000 articles. We've wrote about the tides of change countless times, to where we are now, which is a new beginning for lots of people with the advent of streaming. It's harder to get people in movie theaters these days, and while that's an article in itself,
When I started this site, I never expected to get to 100 articles, let alone 10,000. I never expected people to give their time, energy and effort time and time again. Hell, I've had two kids during these 10,000 articles. Well my wife has, but you get the drift.
On a heartfelt note, thank you for reading and dropping by. Hopefully we've made you laugh, smile, cry, question or learn something over all this time. Maybe you even trolled around in the comments, won some awesome movie goodies or attended one of our exclusive screenings. Who knows. All I know is we appreciate you dropping by.
We've made some great friends over these epic amount of articles and we've worked with some amazing and accommodating studio people, especially here in Ireland. The folks at Walt Disney Studios Ireland, Warner Bros Ireland, Element Pictures, Lighthouse Communications, Kate Bowe PR Universal and Paramount Ireland have being nothing but hugely supportive. While I get the whole "they need us more than we need them" it goes far beyond that at this stage. Having support and being given access for interviews etc. has allowed us to bring our readers some great content. And we really appreciate that!
I also really appreciate that my long suffering wife has endured all of this as well. She's been there since the start, she was there during the "sure, a complete redesign Christmas week is a good idea" Thanks Ger! And my kids, Cameron and Mia. Cameron is no stranger to dropping video reviews here, while Mia has yet to find the movie passion. Unless it involes Elmo, Peppa Pig or that purple bastard dinosaur!
As the movie industry changes and as the web changes, I genuinely don't think we'll have another 10,000 articles. Maybe we will, but over the years we've transitioned and moved with the times and another 10,000 articles in the current format, would leave things stagnant. As a wise old Jedi (one that also has a particular set of skills) once said "Your focus determines your reality"
So we look forward to what's to come, whatever that may be. No matter what though, the projector light (digital or otherwise) will always burn brightly for us here. In the words of a great Doctor, "It's not the years honey, it's the mileage"
Thank YOU!
