Before he came to everyone’s attention with the first three Pirates of the Caribbean movies, Gore Verbinski made quite the name for himself with 2002’s The Ring. Considering that particular J-horror remake is an almost perfect horror movie, it’s hard to believe he hasn’t dipped in toe into the genre since then. Well, now he’s making his return with A Cure for Wellness, which sees Dane DeHann’s ambitious young executive sent to retrieve his company’s CEO from a mysterious ‘wellness centre’ in the Swiss Alps. Of course, there’s more to the spa treatments than first seems, and he soon finds himself a patient diagnosed with same strange illness that affects all of the other guests.
While the first trailer doesn’t give much away, there’s no denying that this has a wonderfully creepy atmosphere and Verbinski definitely knows what makes a horror/thriller tick. Fans of the genre should definitely keep an eye out for this one.
