Yet again, the creative minds at Universal Pictures demonstrate how many ways they can spin the name 'Fast and Furious' for another entry in the high-octane, action franchise. This, the eight instalment, is 'Fate of the Furious' - possibly the most entertaining title yet, inadvertently or otherwise. What used to be a series about street racing, with a touch of cops n' robbers thrown in, is now Hollywood's biggest, most explosive and most bankable straight-action franchise. The Furious series has run the gamut from popcorn action to pastiche, and is now all-the-more beloved for it. Ever since 2011's Fast Five, the heads behind the series have hit on a formula that genuinely works, and stuck to it - a formula that has resulted in a series that is now essentially Mission Impossible-on wheels. If that wasn't clear before, check out this first trailer for Fate of the Furious:
Cast regulars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Elsa Pataky and Kurt Russell are now joined by Oscar winner Charlize Theron. Inarguably, the stand out moment here involves a wrecking-ball, a high speed chase and some totalled baddies.
Synopsis: Now that Dom and Letty are on their honeymoon and Brian and Mia have retired from the game—and the rest of the crew has been exonerated—the globetrotting team has found a semblance of a normal life. But when a mysterious woman seduces Dom into the world of crime he can’t seem to escape and a betrayal of those closest to him, they will face trials that will test them as never before. From the shores of Cuba and the streets of New York City to the icy plains off the arctic Barents Sea, our elite force will crisscross the globe to stop an anarchist from unleashing chaos on the world’s stage…and to bring home the man who made them a family.'
